Chapter 16: Last Resort

A couple of days have passed since the whole 'Oh, yeah, I fucking came in front of Edward' situation. And, I have to admit that I'm pretty happy that I experienced that for the first goddamn time, because it was amazing. I can't believe that I was missing out on...it.

Sure, Andy and I slept together. But, shit. I guess that he didn't know what he was doing, or whatever, because the prick and I didn't even touch each other down there, and it was better than fucking.

Alright, I'm getting ahead of myself here. Maybe it was just me.

am an ordinary fucking broad.

For these past few days, I have been home, to work, and then back home again. I've been over Rose's apartment a couple of times with the Pix, just bullshitting around. Em hasn't been coming around, but it seemed as if Rose was okay with that…suspect, like I said before.

Renee hasn't shown up, that good for nothing piece of waste.

Tonight was the annual carnival, and I really didn't feel like going.

Every single year, I make up some fucking excuse, but in all reality, it just brings up too many goddamn memories being there with Billy and everyone from the Rez. It's been at least five years since I've seen them all, and I kind of wanted to keep it that way even though I've missed them tremendously.

My cell phone started ringing and I groaned, knowing exactly who it was. "Jake," I answered without looking at the caller ID. "I'm not coming, so don't even bother."

"Well hello to you too, buttercup," he laughed on the other end of the line. "And…you are coming, so get ready. Emmett is picking up you, he'll be there in a couple of minutes, bye."

And, hangs up on my ass.

Oh that little…Fuck his life.

I climbed out of my couch and walked into the bathroom, getting ready to take a shower. Before I could take off any of my clothes, my cell started ringing again. "Fuck off, J!" I snapped. "I'm coming, I get it!"

"I told you that that shit was addicting."

I looked at the screen. "Sex Hai—" I stopped, rolling my eyes at myself. "Edward?"

"Hey," he simply said.

Shaking my head, I grinned. "And just so you know, you prick...I'm editing that goddamn name that you put into my phone book."

"I wasn't the one who thought of it," he laughed.

"I was intoxicated, you ass," I replied, pulling my pants down and kicking my socks off. Placing the kid on speaker phone, I tugged off my tee shirt and unhooked my bra before I turned on the water to do what I came in here to do.

Damn, I'm good at multi tasking.

"Are you even listening to me, Bae?"

Oh, maybe not so much.

"What are you doing?" he asked. "What's all of that noise?"

"I'm getting ready to take a shower, I have to go to this annual carnival thing with the boys and Rose."

He hummed. "So you're naked, yeah?"

"You're a dick."

"I called you to see if you wanted to come over tomorrow night," he continued after laughing at the true feelings that I had of his behavior. "We're having a small thing for Jasper's birthday."

I nodded as I took him off of speaker phone. "Yeah, I'll be there."

Edward quickly gave me the details and we hung up a few seconds later.

I hated staying on the phone for stupid bullshit like…

Hey, how are you?

Good. 'Breathing, breathing, breathing.'

So, what are you doing?

Nothing. 'Breathing, breathing, breathing.'

Hey how are you, now?

Still good. 'Breathing, breathing, breathing.'

Now, what are you doing?

Nothing. 'Breathing, breathing, fucking breathing.'

I just found it annoying, having to hear that for a goddamn hour.

And, he seemed to be on my page, so that was cool.

After getting ready for the day, I went downstairs and gritted my teeth as Phil looked up at me from his spot on the recliner. "Isabella," he whispered, pushing himself up to his feet as I stepped into the living room. "It's so nice of you to finally come downstairs." I nodded, completely uninterested, before I went to walk away, but he grabbed onto my arm and stopped me. "Where are you running off to?"

"The Rez," I spat, pushing his hand off of me. "It's the annual carnival, so leave me the fuck alone."

As soon as I heard someone knocking on the front door, I smiled at Phil like the unlucky bastard that he was, and he glared at me in return as I walked away.

I was never happier to know that Emmett was here.

Before I was able to reach the door, Phil tripped me and I growled from the impact of my whole body hitting the floor as he straddled my back. "That attitude of yours is going to get you killed, young girl."

"Get off of me," I hissed, trying to throw him off. He grabbed a hold of my hair and slammed my face into the hardwood floor, causing me to cry out before he covered up my mouth, the smell of his palm making me sick.

"You fucking whore," he hissed before I opened my mouth and bit the shit out of his disgusting skin.

I tasted blood but I didn't know if it was from him, or if my mouth was actually bleeding from the hit that it took a second ago. I felt him moving around on top of me and I threw my head back with a jolt, loving the sound that it made as it connected with his jaw. "Fuck!"

We continued struggling with each other until I was quickly rolled onto my back by his hands so that he could stop my thrashing around while he straddled my stomach. I felt something hard on the side of my face a second later and when I turned my head a bit, I froze, seeing that he was pointing a fucking gun there. "Phil," I whispered, immediately letting go of him. "What are you doing?"

"Isn't it funny?" he sneered, "that this thing right here," he pushed the barrel harder against me, "can shut someone up so quickly?"

"I'm sorry," I breathed as the knocks against the door stopped.

I closed my eyes, praying that Emmett didn't fucking leave.

"Dad?" came Em's voice from outside, "Kiddo?"

I went to scream his name, but Phil stopped my cry of help as he pushed the gun against the side of my face, harder. "Say something Isabella," he warned.

"Please," I whispered, my voice sounding crazy as it shook. "I won't say anything. Just get off of me."

He didn't have time to reply, let alone do anything, as we heard the house key that Emmett had moving around in the lock. After Phil shot up to his feet, the asshole grabbed a hold of my wrists and stood me up a second or two before the front door swung open. Em smiled at Phil, but as he walked inside, his eyes met my form with a frown. "What the fuck?"

"What?" I asked him as he started heading over to me, his steps quick.

I grimaced as he took a hold of my face, his eyes on my forehead. "You're bleeding, Kiddo."

Wrapping my fingers around his forearms, I lowered my head.

I give up.

Closing my eyes, I tried to keep the tears at bay. "Yeah."

As my brother swept his palms across my forehead, I opened my eyes and held back my groan when I saw his hands covered in blood. Wiping them against his jeans, he cursed something too low to comprehend. "Did you fall, or something?"

I shook my head as I looked away from him. "No, Em," I whispered. He lifted my chin so that I could look at him, but all that I saw was Phil behind him, pointing his goddamn gun at the back of Em's head. "I fell!" I cried out, pushing his hands away from my face. His eyebrow raised, and I grabbed a hold of his shoulders before pulling him down to me and wrapping my arms around him. "I...fucking fell," I whispered, "I'm so goddamn clumsy, I'm sorry."

He laughed something soft as he wrapped his arms around my shoulders. I looked over my brother's shoulder and thanked God when I saw Phil lower his gun. Emmett leaned back a bit after a few seconds, giving himself a chance to look at me better while his grip on me remained secure. "It's not a big deal, Kiddo. You know that shit happens, right?"

I nodded as he wiped my tears away. "I'm sorry."

He shook his head, grabbing a hold of my hand. "Don't apologize. Lets just go and have a good time, okay?" I gave him a forced smile while I squeezed his fingers, and he turned around to pat Phil's shoulder. "I'll see you later, Pop."

"Sounds good, son," he whispered, holding the gun behind him with one hand as his other one returned Em's pat. "You come over more often to see your old man."

Emmett smiled as we stepped outside. "Will do."

We rode in my brother's Jeep in silence while I kept my eyes on the trees that we were passing by, my whole system becoming more and more anxious by every mile that we flew by.

I really didn't want to see Billy.

The man is definitely going to know that something was up. Him and my Pop were both like that. One simple look, and they knew that something was suspect.

As Em pulled up along the side of the road, I looked over at him. "Why did you stop?"

He shook his head as he parked, letting the jeep run. "Deep down in my bones, I know that you're keeping something from me, Bells. I just wish that you would tell me."

I looked away from him as I started playing with the hem of my hoodie. "I wish that I could too, Em."

Hearing him move around in his seat, I returned my attention back to him with a raised eyebrow as he took his seatbelt off to face me. "What happened to us, Kiddo?"

I leaned back into my seat and looked up to avoid breaking down right then and there, knowing that if I kept my eyes on my brother, I would. "I don't know," I whispered, shaking my head.

"Is this about going to the Rez by any chance?" he asked. "Because if it is, Bella, shit, just let me know, and I'll fucking turn this car around right now with no problem at all."

I reached out and smoothed the crease that was beginning to form in between his eyebrows, hating the way that this was seriously causing him worry. Taking his hand in mine, I shook my head. "No, Em. It isn't about the Rez. I just need to figure shit out, yeah?"

"Kiddo," he started, squeezing my hand, "I'm sorry for the shit that went down during these past few weeks. I hope that you know that I would never purposely hurt you. You're my sister, and you know how I feel about it not being by blood. To hell with it, right?"

"I know," I smiled. "I guess that we both have to just...figure out our shit, in our own way."

He nodded in agreement. "I love you, you know that, right?"

"I know. I love you, too."

"Alright," he whispered, rubbing his eyes with one hand as he used the other one to push my shoulder. "Now stop being so fucking dramatic, God. Let's get out of here."

I snorted as I ran my own hands against my eyelids. Looking over at him again, I rolled my eyes, seeing him smack his cheeks as he tried to get all manly again. "You're the worst," I mumbled, shaking my head at him.

As Em parked in the spot that was reserved for our asses right in front of the Black's house, I looked around and mumbled a "Holy hell," under my breath, realizing right then and there, that this wasn't going to work. As I went to tell Emmett to drive away, my door was ripped open. I growled up in the air a second later as J threw me over his shoulder before slapping my ass. "Put me down, you moron!" I hissed, punching his back.

"No way, dude," he laughed as he started heading towards the front door, "I saw that hesitation bullshit that you were pulling a second ago. Come on, Pop hasn't seen you for a couple of years."

I gave up struggling, because honestly?

There was no point in wasting my energy.

The gorilla, unfortunately, had a lot more of it.

After karate kicking the door open, the animal carried me into the house. "Pop!" he shouted all macho like, "I got a little — owe, Bells!" he hissed as I bit onto his shoulder. I slapped the back of his head, which only made him laugh in return as he continued. "I got a present for you, old man!"

I hid my face behind my hands, but as I heard Emmett start laughing while he followed us into the house, my eyes narrowed. He coughed and looked away from me, all of a sudden fascinated with the paint job as he gave the wall a satisfying nod. "Let the girl down, you caveman," Billy's voice chastised. "You never learn, she's not the type who likes that."

Jake lowered me down onto the floor and stood next to me as he placed his arm over my shoulder. My brother went to my other side and did the same while I continued to avoid Billy's...everything.

I couldn't look at him. He reminded me so much of how it used to be.

"Hey Kid," Billy started as I heard his footsteps against the wooden floors. Lifting my chin up when he reached me, he grinned as my eyes met his. "I missed you."

One look at him and the tears started building up, instantly.

I coughed as I tried to stop them from appearing. "Me too, Billy."

"Are you done being shy?" he teased, placing his arms across his chest. "Cause it never really suited you, Kid."

I grinned as I wrapped my arms around his waist. I felt him exhale above my hair before he wrapped his own arms around my shoulders, kissing the top of my head afterwards. "Five years," he whispered. "It's been too long, hmm?"

Pulling away from him, I took his hands in mine as I shook my head. "I know, it's just that..."

"I understand," he whispered, shaking his own head at me. "There's no need to explain yourself to me."

I smiled. "Okay."

"Okay," he simply repeated, returning my happiness.

Jake, Emmett, and Rose went into the kitchen to help Sue — who was Billy's wife — get everything ready for dinner. Billy and I sat around the fireplace, catching up. It was comforting, talking to him about my Pop. The man was the only other person who actually understood him.

"Damn, kid. You remember the first time that you dad and I took you and Jake fishing?" He slapped his knee and laughed before he continued, causing my smile to widen from seeing the familiar gesture. "You two guys hated each other. I still find it hard to believe that Jake survived from being your friend, or vice versa."

I snorted as I leaned back into my chair. "Well, if I could get away with it, I would murder his gorilla ass."

-Start Flashback-

"Daaad," I whined, giving him my best puppy dog eyes. "I don't want to go fishing with stupid Jacob."

He laughed from his seat on the recliner. "Kiddo, he's not that bad. Why do you hate him so much?"

"I just do," I mumbled. "He's...annoying."

"Take it easy," he replied with a roll of his eyes. "If he annoys you so much, just do me and yourself a favor by ignoring the kid."

"Maybe the boy has a little crush on you, baby," mom told me as she walked out of the kitchen and into the living room. Bending down a bit, she kissed my forehead as Pop grumbled something under his breath. After going over to him, she laughed as she kissed the top of his head before smacking it. "Oh, hush you."

"Whatever, I'll go," I growled. "But, if he say anything to me, ONE WORD, I'm pushing him into the lake. If he drowns, so be it."

Pop grinned as he pushed himself up to his feet. "Alright, pumpkin. Lets go, we're running late."

---

Arriving at the lake, I rolled my eyes, seeing Billy and Jake out in their, playing catch.

Boys. Gag.

After Pop stepped out of his truck, he came over to my side and opened the door for me to jump out. Placing his hands on top of my shoulder, he looked down at me. "Be good, Kiddo."

I rolled my eyes before I nodded, and he turned around and led us towards the water. As my Pop walked over to where Billy stood, Jake threw the baseball bat down with a growl and headed over to me, looking pissed off. "Well, it's about time, Bells," he whispered, my name coming out of his mouth like it was a chore. "What was the problem? You couldn't figure out how to put your tampon in?" he asked, laughing to himself.

I shrugged, hiding my grin. He walked in front of me and went to sit down so that he could put his feet in the water, but I wanted more of him to get wet, which...caused him to scream like a chick — midair — before the kid 'fell' into the lake.

I looked over at daddy and Billy, who were both shaking their heads at me in disappointment. Turning my attention to my foot as I placed it back onto the ground, I gasped. "Oh my God. How did my leg get in the way?"

"Kiddo," Pop whispered, his eyes holding amusement, "That was uncalled for."

"It was an accident," I grinned, seeing Jake coming back up. "Oppsie daisy."

"You little piece of sh—"

"Jacob Black," Billy interrupted his son with a glare, "You better think twice before finishing that statement."

-End Flashback-

"Bells?" Billy whispered, breaking me out of my thoughts. "You okay?"

"Yeah," I nodded, "sorry. I didn't kn—"

"Hey," he interrupted, shaking his head. "No big deal, Kid."

I smiled, giving him a small nod. "Yeah."

We got called into the kitchen to eat dinner, and as I sat down next to J — who was drooling over his food and tapping his leg up and down, waiting for everything to get situated — I laughed at his impatience. "You need a doctor, man. You're sick. Honestly."

"Bells, you're the same goddamn way, don't act like a fucking princess."

I grabbed a hold of the collar of his favorite shirt and pulled it down with all of the strength that I had in me, the ripping of the fabric down the middle causing his previous narrowed eyes to turn into a straight up glare as his jaw dropped. "You did not just rip my polo."

Taking a hold of what used to be his polo, I grinned. "Actually, I did, princess."

He nodded, in some slow way, before he started eating as everyone sat down.

That's it?

I need to ask him when he grew a fucking vagina.

After knifing some pasta salad, I went to put my fork into my mouth, but J decided to fucking elbow me at the same exact time, causing me to fall off of my chair, hard. Billy growled his sons name as I rubbed my right ass cheek that took the majority of the hit. "Must I remind you that she's not a guy for you to be pushing her like that?"

Sue — who was quietly sitting on my other side — bent down to help me stand up. "I'm sorry, dear. You must excu—"

Laughing, I interrupted her as I pushed myself off of the floor. "No worries, Sue. This isn't something new." I sat down in my chair and kept my eyes on J, who didn't stop eating. "Nicely played," I sneered, smacking the back of his head and causing the fork that he was holding to fall onto the floor.

"You bit—"

"Language," Billy interrupted his son as Rose, who was sitting next to him, glared at us from across the table.

"Excuse me, Sue. I should have kept my wild pets at home," she growled, nodding at J and I. "Animals."

"Wolf, wolf," Jake barked, spitting food all over the place, "Barbie."

Here we go…

Em threw his fork down onto the table with a huff, shaking his head. Billy grabbed onto the glass of water that I was chugging on, making the cold liquid run down my chin and neck as I tried to continue drinking it. I didn't have much time, so I started picking up the food that was laid out on my plate with my bare hands, shoving it into my mouth. While doing that, I pushed my chair back to get out of the scene that will be of J's death. Billy started clearing the table as he mumbled to himself, grabbing the bread that was shoved in Jake's mouth with a sigh of irritation. Sue sat there watching him like 'Uh, honey, people are still eating. Why are you taking everything away?'

Oh, Sue. We're obviously done.

"I must be hearing things," Rose whispered as she turned her head to the right, looking at Emmett. "Did the dog over there just refer me as a goddamn Barbie?"

Em looked over at J — who mind you, was glaring at his dad because the guy deprived him of his bread — and growled. "Jake, man! I was hungry, you fool."

"Yeah, well so was —"

And cue Rose flying out of her chair and crawling across the kitchen table before taking a hold of Jake's throat and choking the shit out of him as she straddled his body. "Is this me being a Barbie, you dog?" she shouted.

He laughed — meaning that he really didn't value his goddamn life causing her to squeeze harder, which in consequence, literally cut off Jake's amusement. "Who's laughing now?" she asked in some 'don't you answer my question, because if you do, you're done' type of a way.

"R, chill out!" he hissed, trying to pry her fingers off of his neck. "Don't be so abusive!"

"I'll show you abusive!" she yelled before biting his cheek, causing the kid in return to scream out in pain.

Everyone left the kitchen to go outside in the back yard, leaving Rose and J to their 'tap out' session. Emmett, Sue, and Billy walked off and started greeting people. I told them that I was just going to take a seat and relax. I didn't feel like going up to all of these people and having them look at me like they were sorry.

What the fuck were they sorry for? They didn't do shit.

I know that there was still 'talk' about my Pop's murder, since we live in this small goddamn town. I could just tell that people were looking at me with pity, even when they tried to hide it, and it irked my goddamn nerves.

Taking a seat on one of the farthest benches, I started feeling...overwhelmed.

Everywhere I looked, childhood memories ran through my mind.

I was about to get something to drink, but Rose came up to me out of nowhere and handed me a plastic cup. "Calm your shit," she whispered with a smirk as she pushed me back down and took a seat next to me. "You look like someone stole your chucks."

After taking a sip, I grinned as the whiskey scratched my throat. "Rose, if I could impregnate you, I would."

"What was it this time?" she asked all of a sudden, moving my hair away from my forehead.

I pushed her hand away, returning her narrowed eyes with my own. "Nothing."

"Nothing?"

"It was a mistake," I lied.

"Excuse me?" she asked incredulously, standing up.

"Stop, Rose."

"Something happened," she stated.

"Nothing happened," I growled, standing up to face her. "Leave it alone."

"You never, ever, make excuses for him. He fucking did something."

"He didn't do shit."

"I'm telling Emmett," she whispered as she went to walk away from me, but I quickly stopped her by grabbing a hold of her shoulders and pushing her back to the bench. "Get the fuck off of me, B, or I'll break your fa—"

Her words stopped when she looked behind me, and as I followed her gaze and saw Billy heading towards us, I gritted my teeth and forced a smile over my face. "Is everything alright, ladies?"

"Everything is fine," I told him as he took a seat next to Rose, who rolled her eyes at my response.

Taking a hold of my cup, he grinned as he looked into it. "Hitting the whiskey, just like your pop, huh?"

I lowered my head. "Yeah, B. Bad day?" Rose asked, nicely.

Bitch.

"No," I whispered, returning my attention back to her as I lifted my head. "I'm just in the mood for something harder than your bitch ass drink, you chick."

"Hey, kiddo." My eyes met Emmett's as he placed his arm over my shoulder. Looking over at Rose, he raised a brow. "You okay, Rosie?"

Her frown turned upside down as she looked at my forehead. "I'm perfect."

I lifted my hoodie over my hair and held in my growl as Billy stood up and walked over to me. "What?"

He pulled my hoodie down and touched my forehead with scrunched together eyebrows while I tried to hide the grimace that wanted to show up on my face. "What happened, Kid?"

"Nothing," I whispered, brushing his hand away. "My sunglasses cu—"

Rose interrupted my lie by coughing a "Bullshit."

Looks like I'm going to have to plan a motherfucking funeral...

Because I am going to murder this bitch.

Emmett raised an eyebrow at me. "You told me that you fell, kiddo."

See?

This is what happens when I fucking lie.

First off, I suck at it.

Second off, I fucking suck at it.

"Where's mom?" Billy asked me when I didn't respond to Emmett's statement. Bringing my cup up to my lips, I went to take a sip of my alcohol, but he grabbed a hold of the plastic and gave it to Rose. "Where's Renee?"

"Oh!" I smiled, "she left!"

Rose's eyes widened as she stood up. "Renee left you there wi—"

"And?" I interrupted, my irritation winning. "What's the big deal, everyone fucking leaves."

"You didn't tell me that she left, Kiddo. If I would've known that, you could've stayed with us," Em argued.

I shook my head before I looked at him. "Em, take me home?"

He nodded, scratching the back of his neck. "I'll uh, meet you out front. Let me tell Jake that we're leaving."

I nodded as Rose looked away from me. Jake's Pop, on the other hand, was staring at my existence.  "Thanks, Billy, this was nice," I whispered as I walked over to him and wrapped my arms around his waist.

He felt more tense than not, which only meant that I needed to get the fuck out of here before he put two and two together.

Pushing me back slightly, he took a hold of my face and lifted it. "Let me look at you for a second."

"Yeah," I whispered, trying to hide the fear that was ripping through me as his eyes ran over my face. "Okay."

"Are you alright?" he asked.

"Perfect," I lied.

He looked into my eyes for a couple of more seconds before he nodded. "That's all that I need to know."

He didn't buy into a single word that I said, I fucking knew it.

And so I left the Reservation, hightailing my ass out of there as quickly as I could.

As Emmett parked in the driveway, he looked over at me. "Are you sure that you don't want to spend some time with us, Kiddo? It's really not a problem."

I shook my head as I opened my door. "I'm good, Em. I'll uh, call you tomorrow, yeah?"

"Okay." I had one foot outside of the jeep as he stopped me from leaving by placing his hand over my arm. "I don't feel...right...for some reas"

"Emmett, I'm okay," I interrupted. "Just go home and relax, alright?"

He hesitated, but listened as his fingers let go of my sleeve. "Yeah, okay. I'll talk to you tomorrow."
